Aucklanders debate Mother’s Day meaning

Mother’s Day is upon us today, but some New Zealanders are dubious about celebrating it.

A recent opinion piece on Debate.org posed the question as to whether Mother’s Day should be celebrated.

The result had the public divided, with 50 per cent saying mothers deserve a specific day of recognition and that the day gives a good reason to show mums some gratitude.

The other half argued that over-commercialisation of the celebratory day has caused it to lose its sentimental value.

On the streets of Auckland, some said they think mothers deserve acknowledgement more than once a year.
