Auckland University of Technology’s local student bar, Vesbar, has had a revamp after ten years.

The revamp comes after AUT student Angel Chen won a competition to pitch a new design for the bar.

Bar manager Simon Bell says the bar was starting to look “a bit dated” before the refurbishments took place.

“If you asked somebody to think of all the bad things to do with a student bar, that was what it epitomized,” said Mr Bell

Mr Bell says they hope for Vesbar to move from its “drinking den” stereotype, moving to a more sophisticated layout to attract customers.

“We’ve tried to diversify our drinks offer and open the bar up to make it appealing to a wider range of students.”

AUT student, Charlotte Coultas says, the new layout is more appealing and makes her more inclined to return, rather than going to Shadows Bar at Auckland University.

“Yeah, I love the new layout, it’s so much better compared to how it used to look,” she says.
