AUT University is set to host New Zealand’s first global wine showcase at the World of Wine Festival next weekend.
The event will allow visitors to taste over 140 wines from around 14 different countries around the world.
AUT’s Senior Lecturer for Professional Wine Studies Cameron Douglas and his wife Janet Blackman are part of the project team for the event and suggested AUT’s tourism and hospitality facilities for the festival.
Mrs Blackman says, “We thought the facilities were suitable and different.”
“It is immediately appealing to us for our Professional Wine Studies students to have the opportunity to try a wide selection of international wines at one event in one place.”
Mrs Blackman says it’s a really special festival to have in New Zealand.
Professional Wine Studies students will not only get a tasting experience but will also be directly involved in running the stands and pouring the wine.
Student in the course Paris Reardon says, “It’s an exciting opportunity to be a part of an event that is so relevant to our course.”
Miss Reardon says it’ll be beneficial to be able to relate things learnt in the classroom to the real thing.
AUT hopes the event will encourage other students into the wine and beverage programme.
The event runs across two days and will give New Zealander’s a rare chance to try acclaimed wines from all across the world.
