An entire musical - in just 48 hrs

It was a sell-out musical - and the audience were impressed that the cast and crew learnt and rehearsed it with just 48 hours squeezed into their studies at AUT.

The university's Performing Arts club (AUTPA) members spent those 48 hours sleeping, eating, and rehearsing in the same place, with 16-hour days packed full of practice for High school Musical.

One of the producers Caroline Fonseca said it was an amazing experience, despite the sleep exhaustion and stress that came along with it.

“It was an incredible experience. I had two amazing co-directors who helped, but still have no idea how we managed to pull it all off.

We were exhausted and sleep-deprived but still managed to put on a great show,” said Fonseca who also served as singing instructor.

The show, which was promoted as prepared in only 2 days, had originally planned to sell 80 tickets but ended up selling over 100 due to demand.

Reviews for the show were positive, with most people praising the quality for a show that had been practiced in only one weekend, said Fonseca.

“Most people were amazed that they were able to put on such a professional performance in only 48 hours.”

AUTPA is the universities only performing arts club, and pride themselves on putting on quality shows for audiences throughout the year, with two more planned for 2024.
