Plans are back on track for an upgraded Mt Albert town centre with more public space and a pedestrian bridge connecting the the train station.
Mt Albert residents can now have their say on the renewed proposal, after project funding was initially cut earlier in the year.
Urban design consultants and Auckland Transport presented the new plans at last week’s Mt Albert Residents Association meeting. The Albert-Eden Local Board has budgeted $3.4m funding for the village refurbishment, and aims to finish building by the end of June next year.
The designs will now go out for public consultation. Local Board member Glenda Fryer says they include a “de-cluttering of the ‘village square' so the space would be welcoming for the public as they alight the train”.
Funding for the construction of the pedestrian bridge from the train station to the square will be confirmed in the 2015-2025 Regional Land Transport Plan in June 2015.
Auckland Transport will report back to the Albert-Eden Local Board in July with a further update on the project and a draft concept design of the bridge.
